How much does Spotify pay per stream in 2026?
Roughly $0.003 to $0.005 USD per stream gross, before any cuts. The exact number depends on listener country (premium vs free, paid vs ad-supported), the territory's payout rate, and your label/distributor agreement. As of Spotify's 2024 policy update, tracks with fewer than 1,000 plays in a 12-month window are demonetised entirely.
Why is my actual payout lower than the per-stream rate?
Three layers eat into the headline rate:
1. Distributor fee (0–20% — DistroKid takes a flat annual fee, CD Baby takes 15%, etc.)
2. Label split if you're signed (you might keep 50% on a 50/50 deal, or as little as 15% on a traditional label deal)
3. Songwriter and producer splits from your share, if applicable.
How many streams to make €1,000?
Independent artist on DistroKid at $0.004/stream: about 250,000 streams. On a 50/50 label deal: roughly 500,000 streams. On a traditional label (15%): around 1.7 million streams to clear €1,000.
Does playlist placement guarantee streams?
No, but it usually helps. Editorial and curator playlists drive a baseline of streams and — more importantly — feed Spotify's algorithm signals (saves, skips, repeat plays) which can unlock Discover Weekly and Release Radar inclusion. Rapture submissions are reviewed for fit, not paid placement.
Is this calculator accurate?
It's a good directional estimate. Spotify's actual per-stream rate varies daily and per-track based on listener demographics. Your distributor and label agreements determine the exact percentages. For precise numbers, check your distributor dashboard.
